University of North Texas to Host Sport Psychology Conference

The University of North Texas will host the inaugural Texas Sport Psychology Conference on March 3-4, 2017. The conference will feature nationally recognized sport psychology professionals and will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn about the latest research and developments in the field.

The University of North Texas will host the 12th annual Sport Psychology Conference from Thursday, Oct. 10, to Sunday, Oct. 13.

This year’s conference will feature more than 50 experts in the field of sport psychology who will share their latest research and discuss current issues impacting athletes, coaches and sports organizations. Topics of conversation will include coaching methods, dealing with anxiety and stress, maintaining focus during competition, managing pain and other obstacles to peak performance.

The conference will also feature a keynote address by Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps on Friday, Oct. 11. Phelps will discuss the importance of mental training in achieving success in sports and in life.

* Dr. Scott Goldman, director of the Sport Psychology Laboratory at the University of Northern Colorado

The Conference

The University of North Texas will be hosting a sport psychology conference on March 3-5. This conference is aimed at helping athletes of all levels perform at their best. The conference will feature keynote speakers, breakout sessions, and a panel discussion.

What is Sport Psychology?

Sport psychology is the scientific study of people and their behaviors in sport and exercise contexts. It spans a wide range of topics, including performance enhancement, emotional regulation, team dynamics, burnout prevention, and talent development. Researchers in this field strive to understand why some individuals excel in sport while others do not, and how to optimize performance and well-being in both elite athletes and recreational participants.

The Conference on Sport Psychology will be held at the University of North Texas from July 13-15. The conference will bring together leading researchers and practitioners in the field to share their latest findings and discuss pressing issues facing athletes, coaches, and sport organizations today.

UNT’s Sport Psychology Program

The University of North Texas will host the 12th annual Sport Psychology Colloquium on Feb. 22-23 in Multipurpose Classroom Building Room 136 on UNT’s main campus in Denton.

The conference is designed to improve mental performance in athletes through seminars and workshops led by nationally and internationally recognized experts in the field. Attendees will learn about the latest research and theories in the areas of motivation, goal setting, concentration, routines, and more.

UNT’s sport psychology program is one of only a handful of such programs nationwide that is accredited by the American Psychological Association.


The conference will feature some of the most prominent researchers in the field of sport psychology and will culminate with a keynote address by Dr. Michael Gervais, recognized world-wide as a leading high performance psychologist.
