The Faculty’s Research Interests

Dr. Russell Brayley’s research interests include consumer behavior in sport, new product development and commercialization in sport, and strategic marketing issues in sport.

The Faculty’s Teaching Experience
The Sport Management Faculty at Texas A&M University all have a wealth of teaching experience in sport management and related fields. All of our faculty members have taught at the collegiate level and many have also taught at the secondary and elementary school levels. The Sport Management Curriculum
The Sport Management curriculum at Texas A&M University covers a broad range of topics designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in the sport industry. The program is accredited by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA).
The Core Courses
The core curriculum for the Sport Management degree is designed to give students a broad-based knowledge of the business and management of sport organizations. The curriculum emphasizes both theoretical and applied learning experiences. In addition to the required courses listed below, students must also complete an internship and a capstone course.

The Elective Courses
The sport management curriculum provides 12 hours of required courses and 12 hours of elective courses allowing students to tailor the program to their individual needs and interests. A minimum grade of “C” is required in all required and elective sport management courses. No more than 3 hours of independent study (SMGT 489, 589, 689) and 3 hours of practicum (SMGT 487, 587, 687) may be applied toward the degree.

The Sport Management Internship
The Sport Management internship is a 12-credit-hour program that provides students with opportunities to experience the sport industry firsthand. The program is open to Sport Management majors who have completed at least 60 credit hours and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
The Internship’s Goals
The internship provides an opportunity for the student to gain practical experience in the operations of a sport organization. The internship is designed to complement the academic course work in the sport management program. The internship may be taken for academic credit, but is not required for graduation.
The Internship’s Requirements
In order to ensure that students receive the best possible internship experience, the Department of Sport Management requires that all students participating in an internship complete the following:
1. A written internship proposal that outlines the goals and objectives of the internship as well as how those objectives will be met. The proposal must be approved by the student’s faculty advisor prior to beginning the internship.
2. A minimum of 135 contact hours (exclusive of commute time) completed at the internship site.
3. A journal documenting activities performed during the internship experience. The journal should be submitted to the faculty advisor at designated intervals throughout the semester for review and feedback.
4. An internship report that summarizes activities and experiences during the internship as well as how those experiences relate to coursework in Sport Management. The report should be submitted to the faculty advisor at the conclusion of the semester for review and feedback.
5. A professional portfolio documenting skills and accomplishments during the internship experience. The portfolio should be submitted to the faculty advisor at the conclusion of the semester for review and feedback
