There are a variety of sports offered, ranging from basketball and volleyball to more obscure sports like ultimate frisbee and Quidditch. There is something for everyone, and the intramural sports provide a great way for students to stay active and meet new people.
Flag football is a version of the game of American football that is popularly played in recreation leagues. The main difference between flag football and tackle football is that instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag or flags from the ball carrier (“deflagging”) to end a down.
Invented in 1932, flag football has been played in physical education classes as an alternative to dangerous tackle football, which nevertheless ruled most playgrounds; [] by intramural and recreation sports leagues at colleges, high schools, and middle schools; [] and by men’s, women’s, co-ed, youth, senior citizen, religious organization teams.

Intramural basketball at Texas State is a 5-on-5 league played with two 20-minute halves. There are 4 divisions of play: Mens, Womens, Open, and Fraternity/Sorority. A playoff tournament is held at the end of each semester. Regular season and tournament champions receive t-shirts.
Tennis is a racquet sport that can be played individually against a single opponent (singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent’s court. The object of the game is to play the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball will not gain a point, while the opposite player will.
