The 2013 Texas Sport Management Symposium will be held in Dallas, TX on May 17-18 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas. The symposium will provide an overview of the sport management field for those new to the profession as well as update experienced professionals on current trends. There will be a variety of sessions offered on topics such as marketing, sponsorship, event management, merchandising, facility management, and more. In addition, there will be networking opportunities and a trade show.

This year’s symposium will focus on how to effectively manage a sports organization. The symposium will cover topics such as budgeting, marketing, event planning, and risk management. In addition, the symposium will feature a panel discussion on the current state of the sport management industry.

This year’s symposium, held on October 12th at the University of Texas at Austin, featured keynote speaker Dr. Andy Gillentine from the University of Memphis. Dr. Gillentine’s presentation, “The Impact of Social Media on Sport Organizations”, provided attendees with an in-depth look at how social media is changing the landscape of sport organizations.
Other highlights from the symposium included presentations on a variety of topics such as fan engagement, athlete performance, and event management. The symposium also featured a panel discussion on the future of sport management research in Texas featuring representatives from each of the state’s major universities.
