Chris Pryor’s Career
Chris Pryor was inducted into the Texas Sport Hall of Fame on February 15, 2020. Pryor had an illustrious career, highlighted by his time with the Dallas Cowboys. Pryor played a total of 12 seasons with the Cowboys, winning two Super Bowls.
Chris Pryor’s collegiate career
Pryor began his collegiate career at Texas Christian University, where he was a four-year starter and was named an All-American in his senior year. He was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
Chris Pryor’s professional career
Chris Pryor began his professional career in the early 1970s as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. He played with the team for 11 years, during which time he was selected to six Pro Bowls and was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1973. He then spent two years with the San Francisco 49ers before retiring from football in 1986.
Pryor was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.

Thank you. I am deeply honored to be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. It is a privilege to join the ranks of so many great athletes, coaches and contributors who have made such an impact on the state of Texas and the world of sports.
I am especially humbled to be inducted alongside my good friend and fellow Texas Longhorn, Mack Brown. Our time together at The University of Texas was very special, and I will always cherish our friendships and memories from that era.
I am also grateful for the opportunities I have had to work with some of the most talented people in the sports industry throughout my career. I have been fortunate to be a part of some truly groundbreaking initiatives, and I am proud of the progress we have made in growing the game of football and making it more accessible to everyone.
Lastly, I want to thank my family for their unwavering support throughout my career. My wife, Julie, has been my biggest fan and closest advisor, and my children have always been my biggest motivators. I am so blessed to have them in my life, and I cannot thank them enough for all they have done for me.

I also want to thank the selection committee for this great honor. I am humbled to be in the company of so many great athletes and coaches who have been inducted into this hall. I am proud to represent the state of Texas and its rich sports tradition.

Chris Pryor’s election to the Texas Sport Hall of Fame is a well-deserved honor for one of the true giants of the game. Not only was he a superb player, but he also had a profound impact on the way football is played and coached today.
Pryor was an All-American at the University of Texas and a first-team All-Pro selection six times in his 11-year NFL career. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio in 1986.
Pryor was one of the first defenders to use the “read and react” technique, which is now the standard for defensive play in the NFL. He was also an innovator in using film study to prepare for opponents, and his work in this area helped lay the foundation for modern football scouting and game preparation.
In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Pryor also served as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 1990 to 1992, compiling a record of 30-16. He was inducted into the Texas Sport Hall of Fame in 2005.
