Introduction

Interscholastic athletics in Texas are governed by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). The UIL is the largest inter-school organization of its kind in the world. It is made up of more than 1,300 public and private high schools, and over 500,000 student-athletes. The UIL is divided into four regions, each of which contains several conferences. In order to be eligible to compete in UIL athletics, a school must be a member of one of these conferences.

The UIL recognizes five levels of competition: 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A, and 2A/1A. The number corresponds to the size of the school’s enrollment; 6A being the largest schools, 5A being the next largest, and so on.

The Texas High School Sport Rankings are based on data from the Texas High School Football Database (THSFD). The THSFD is a comprehensive database of information on Texas high school football teams, players, and games. It includes data on every team that has played football in Texas since 1892.

The rankings are based on a points system that awards points for wins, losses, and ties. The point values are weighted so that recent games are worth more than games played in the past. The rankings are updated weekly during the high school football season.
