Prairie View A&M University

Prairie View A&M University is a historically black university (HBCU) located in Prairie View, Texas, United States (USA). The university is a member of the Texas A&M University System and classified as a Doctoral University: Higher Research Activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Just over 9,200 undergraduate and graduate students attend the university.

The University’s Athletic Programs

Prairie View Southern University’s Athletic Department is committed to providing a world-class experience for student-athletes. The University offers 17 NCAA Division I sports teams, as well as a variety of club sports teams and intramural sports leagues. The University is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and competes in the conference’s East Division.

The University’s athletic programs have a long history of success. The Prairie View Southern football team has won 11 conference championships and has made three appearances in the NCAA Division I Football Championship. The men’s basketball team has won two conference championships and has made one appearance in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. The women’s basketball team has won 11 conference championships and has made nine appearances in the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The University also offers a variety of club sports teams, which compete against other colleges and universities in the region. These teams include: men’s and women’s rugby, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s ultimate frisbee, men’s and women’s water polo, and men’s volleyball. In addition, the University offers intramural sports leagues for students who are not interested in competing at the club or intercollegiate level. These leagues include: flag football, basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, soccer, softball, and ultimate frisbee.
