Sport Management at Texas A&M is dedicated to providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a career in the sports industry. Our program offers a variety of courses that cover everything from the business of sports to the psychology of athletes. Introduction
Sport management is the business of sport. It is the study of how sport organizations operate and how they are structured. Sport managers plan, organize, and direct the operations of sport organizations. They may also be involved in marketing, finance, event planning, or public relations.
The Sport Management program at Texas A&M University is designed to prepare students for careers in the sport industry. The program offers a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in sport management. The program is accredited by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA).

Undergraduate Programs
The Department of Sport Management at Texas A&M offers two undergraduate majors, sport management and kinesiology with a sport management concentration, as well as a minor in sport management. Both undergraduate programs prepare students for entry-level positions in the sport industry as well as provide a strong foundation for those interested in pursuing graduate studies.
The sport management major is a 120-hour program that provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in the sport industry. The curriculum emphasizes the business aspects of sport and includes coursework in areas such as marketing, finance, law, and event management. Students also have the opportunity to complete an internship in a sport-related organization.
The kinesiology with a sport management concentration major is a 120-hour program that provides students with a strong foundation in the scientific study of human movement. The curriculum includes coursework in areas such as anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and motor learning. Students who complete this major will be prepared for careers in the fitness or coaching industries, or for further study at the graduate level.
Graduate Programs
The Department of Sport Management offers two graduate programs: a Master of Science (M.S.) with a concentration in Sport Management and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) with a concentration in Leisure Studies. Both programs are designed to prepare students for careers in the sport industry.
The M.S. in Sport Management is a 36-credit hour program that can be completed in as little as two years. The program curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful careers in the sport industry. Coursework includes classes in sport finance, sport marketing, sport law, and event management. The program also includes an internship requirement, giving students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in the sport industry.
The Ph.D. in Leisure Studies is a 90-credit hour program that can be completed in four to six years. The program curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers as scholars and researchers in the field of leisure studies. Coursework includes classes on the sociology of leisure, the psychology of leisure, and the history of leisure. The program also includes a dissertation requirement, giving students the opportunity to conduct original research on a topic of their choice.

In order to compare the research of Texas A&M with other universities, a research study was conducted. The methodology included a review of the research published by faculty in the Department of Sport Management at Texas A&M from 2007-2016. The research was coded and analyzed to compare the quantity and quality of the research with other universities.
