History

In the 1930s, before Sport Flyers Airport existed, the site was used as an emergency landing strip for Western Air Express. In 1940, it was transformed into a full-fledged airport and given the name Brookshire Airport. The airport was used by the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. After the war, the airport was turned over to the city of Brookshire and renamed Sport Flyers Airport.
