The Texas Rangers are a professional baseball team based in Arlington, Texas, located in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Rangers franchise currently competes in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the American League (AL) West division. Since 1994, the Rangers have played their home games at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The team’s name is borrowed from the famous law enforcement agency of the same name.
The franchise was established in 1961 as the Washington Senators, an expansion team awarded to Washington, D.C., after the city’s first AL ballclub—the second Washington Senators—moved to Minneapolis–St. Paul and became the Minnesota Twins. FC Dallas appeared in the MLS Cup Playoffs 12 times, winning their first MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2016. They have won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on two occasions, in 1997 and 2016. The team plays its home games at Toyota Stadium, which opened as Pizza Hut Park in August 2005 and houses 20,500 spectators as of 2017.
