Sport Dog Rescue in Texas is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned dogs from shelters and pounds, as well as those that are owner surrendered. We also provide transport for dogs in need of rescue from other parts of the country. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for any medical problems they may have before they are placed in a forever home.
Texas is home to over 7 million dogs, many of which are abandoned or relinquished by their owners each year. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, approximately 3.9 million of these dogs end up in shelters. Unfortunately, due to the lack of available homes, nearly half of all shelter dogs in Texas are euthanized each year.
Sport Dog Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing abandoned and unwanted dogs from shelters in Texas. We believe that all dogs deserve a second chance at a happy and healthy life, regardless of their past. We are committed to finding responsible, loving homes for these dogs and placing them in families where they will be loved and cherished members for years to come.
We are a unique, nonprofit 501(c)3, all-breed dog rescue based in Austin, Texas.
What makes us different from other rescues is that every dog in our program is placed in a foster home until he or she is adopted. This gives the dog a chance to decompress from the shelter environment and learn what it means to be part of a family. Our foster families also provide invaluable information about each dog’s personality, preferences and quirks, which helps us find the best possible match for each adopter.
We are 100% foster-based, meaning we do not have a physical shelter for our dogs. This allows us to rescue dogs from throughout Central Texas and place them in loving homes rather than leaving them languishing in shelters or euthanized.
