Sport Chalet, Inc. announced today that it plans to expand its operations to Texas. This move will allow Sport Chalet to better serve its customer base in the southern United States. Sport Chalet currently has locations in California, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico. The expansion into Texas is part of Sport Chalet’s plan to continue to grow its business and expand its reach.
Sport Chalet to open new store in Texas
Sport Chalet, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPCH) announced today that it plans to open a new store in the Houston market. The new store, slated to open in August 2003, will be located at The Woodlands Mall, a 1.4 million square foot regional shopping center located approximately 30 miles north of downtown Houston.
Sport Chalet plans to hire new employees
Sport Chalet plans to hire about 50 new employees for its first Texas store, which is slated to open in Frisco next year, a company spokeswoman confirmed Monday.
The California-based sporting goods retailer has started advertising for Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager and Sales Associate positions at the future location. The positions were posted on the company’s website and on Indeed.com.
The store will be located at 3685 Preston Road, in the Frisco Bridges development, which is currently under construction. It will be Sport Chalet’s first location in Texas.
Frisco Economic Development Director John Classe said the retailer would be a good fit for the city because of its proximity to several major highways, including the Dallas North Tollway and Sam Rayburn Tollway.
“I think it will bring some traffic to that area that wouldn’t ordinarily come,” he said. “I think it will help support some of the other businesses that are there.”
Sport Chalet is a full-service sporting goods retailer with stores throughout California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. It offers equipment and gear for team sports, as well as individual sports such as tennis, golf, skiing and snowboarding.
