Introduction
Royal Purple Auto X is one of the most popular sport car tracks in Texas. The track is located in Baytown, Texas and features a 2.5 mile long course. The track has been open since 2009 and features a variety of different events throughout the year.
History
Royal Purple Raceway, formerly Houston Motorsports Park, is a 3/4-mile (1.2 km) oval race track in Baytown, Texas that hosts NASCAR and NHRA events, as well as multiple other racing series. The track is currently owned and operated by Royal Purple Syndicate, LLC.
The facility was originally built in 1989 as Texas World Speedway, a road course used for IndyCar, sports car, and truck racing. In October 1998, the track was purchased by new owners and renamed Houston Motorsports Park. The new owners added a 3/4-mile (1.2 km) oval to the existing road course in 1999.
Location
The Royal Purple Auto X is located at the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. The raceway is about 30 minutes east of downtown Houston and just south of I-10. The auto x course is set up on the north side of the property in the infield of the oval track.
The Track
Royal Purple Auto X is a high-banked, multimillion-dollar facility that offers one of the most unique driving experiences in North America. The 1.5-mile (2.4 km) road course is situated on 400 acres (1.6 km2) of land and features 15 turns, 2 straights, and 165 feet (50 m) of elevation change.
The track has been designed to maximize safety while providing an exciting and challenging experience for both novice and experienced drivers. It is fully FIA accredited and has been host to numerous national and international events.
The Cars
The cars that come to the track are a wide variety of makes and models. You will see Miatas, Porches, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches, and more.
There is not a separate class for each make and model. Instead, there are seven different classes that are based on the power to weight ratio of the car. The classes are:
-A (up to 200 hp per ton)
-B (201-250 hp per ton)
-C (251-300 hp per ton)
-D (301-350 hp per ton)
-E (351-400 hp per ton)
G ((401+ hp per ton)
