Introduction
The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District offers a well-rounded education that helps prepare students forsuccess in college and in the workforce. In addition to a strong academic curriculum, CFISD also places aemphasis on physical education and sports. The district offers a variety of programs and activities to helpstudent stay physically active and healthy, and to teach them the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.
Physical education classes are required for all students in CFISD, starting in kindergarten and continuing throughhigh school. In addition to traditional team sports like football, basketball, and baseball, the district also offersa number of unique programs that give students the opportunity to try new activities and learn new skills. Theseprograms include archery, dance, fencing, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis,track & field, water polo, weightlifting, and more.
Interscholastic sports are also an important part of the CFISD experience. The district competes at the varsitylevel in 21 different sports: baseball, basketball (boys & girls), cross country (boys & girls), football (11-man& 6-man), golf (boys & girls), gymnastics (girls), Lacrosse (boys & girls), powerlifting (boys & girls), soccer(boys & girls), softball (girls), swimming & diving (boys & girls), tennis (boys & girls), track & field(boyst& girls), volleyball (girls), water polo (boys). Cypress-Fairbanks student-athletes have a long history of successat the state and regional level. In recent years CFISD teams have won state championships in baseball(2018), boys basketball (2017), cross country (2017 – girls; 2018 – boys & girls; 2019 – boys; 2020 – girls;2021 – boys 8th grade only* ), football 11-man class 4A Division 1 state championships2016 Football State Champions! 2017 State Finalists!(); golf (); powerlifting (); softball (); swimmingand diving (); tennis (); track Field 2021 High School Boys Indoor Track Field State Champions!();and volleyball ().
(*Cypress Woods High School opened in August 2017 with grades 9-12; therefore there were no cross countrystate champions at the 8th grade level prior to 2017.)
Cypress-Texas Physical Education
Cypress-Texas students in grades K-12 participate in physical education classes as part of the regular school day. Students in grades 9-12 also have the opportunity to compete in a variety of sports through the Cypress-Texas Interscholastic Athletic Association (CTIAA).
The CTIAA offers competitive sports programs for both girls and boys in grades 9-12. There are four sports seasons throughout the school year, Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. Each season has different sports that are offered.
Fall: Football, Volleyball, Cross Country
Winter: Basketball, Wrestling, Swimming & Diving
Spring: Soccer, Track & Field, Tennis
Summer: Baseball, Softball
