The Spurs are one of four former American Basketball Association (ABA) teams to remain intact in the NBA after the 1976 ABA–NBA merger and are the only former ABA team to have won an NBA championship. The franchise has won five NBA championships, which is tied for fifth-most in NBA history and second-most among active franchises. The Spurs’ five championships are also the fourth most in any U.S. major professional sports league, behind only the New York Yankees (27), St. Louis Cardinals (11), and Los Angeles Lakers (11). As of 2020, the Spurs have the highest winning percentage among active NBA franchises during their time since 1976.

The San Antonio Missions are a Minor League Baseball team that plays in the Pacific Coast League. The team is based in San Antonio, Texas, and their home field is Wolff Stadium. The Missions are the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. The team was founded in 1888 and they are one of the oldest teams in the history of professional baseball.

History

The San Antonio Missions were a minor league baseball team in San Antonio, Texas, that existed from 1888 until 2018 when they became the San AntonioFlying Chanclas. Originally called the Alamo City Base Ball Club, they were renamed the Lightfoots in 1890, the Cowboys in 1892, and finally the Missions in 1915. They played their home games at Mission Stadium from 1926 until 2018.

The Missions were a farm team of the Cleveland Indians from 1939 to 1941 and again from 1946 to 1949. From 1950 to 1957, they were a farm team of the Milwaukee Braves. In 1958, they became a farm team of the Pittsburgh Pirates and remained so until 1998. From 1999 to 2014, they were a farm team of the Houston Astros. For 2015 onward, they have been a farm team of the Milwaukee Brewers.

In 2001, the Missions won their first and only championship as a Double-A affiliate; they defeated the Wichita Wranglers three games to two in the Texas League championship series. The Missions moved up to Triple-A baseball in 2002 as part of Major League Baseball’s reorganization of minor league baseball. They became an affiliate of the San Diego Padres for 2002 and 2003 before becoming an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners in 2004. The team’s Triple-A affiliation ended after 2006; it rejoined the Double-A Texas League in 2007 as part of MLB’s realignment that year and remained there until 2018 when it moved up again to Triple-A Pacific Coast League as the PCL affiliate of MLB’s new Arizona Diamondbacks franchise which started play that year.. Missions is the name of several minor league baseball teams in the United States, currently affiliated with the Seattle Mariners. The name arose from the fact that several of these teams were previously located in or near Spanish missions. The Missions team logo features a mission bell superimposed on a stylized Lone Star.

San Antonio Rampage

The San Antonio Rampage is a professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League (AHL) that began play in 2002. The team is owned by the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and play their home games at the AT&T Center.

History

The Rampage finished the season in last place in the Central Division with a record of 30-42-4-6. The team was plagued by injuries throughout the campaign, as five different players appeared in at least 50 games for the club. On April 24, 2012, it was announced that assistant coach John Torchetti would not return for the following season. On May 31, it was announced that Greg Gilbert would be the new head coach of the Rampage. Gilbert had previously served as an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks.
