While in PT school, he met his wife, Stephanie, and they married after graduation. They have three young children.

He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Houston. He then went on to complete a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California.
