Introduction

Concordia University Texas is proud to offer a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. The program is built upon a Christian foundation and prepare students for careers in the sport industry through its curriculum and experiential learning opportunities.

Concordia University Texas Sport Management Faculty

The Sport Management Faculty at Concordia University Texas are experts in their field with a passion for teaching the next generation of Sport Managers.

Dr. Craig Esherick

Dr. Craig Esherick is a professor and the program coordinator for Concordia University Texas’ sport management program. He has over 30 years of experience in the industry, working as a coach, athletic director, and higher education administrator. His research interests include coaching development, sport leadership, and organizational behavior in sport.

Dr. Scott Ward

Dr. Ward is a 1992 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and served five years on active duty as an Army officer. Following his service in the Army, Dr. Ward entered the field of Sport Management, earning his Masters degree from the University of Michigan in 1997 and his PhD from Texas A&M University in 2000.

Dr. Ward has been a member of the Concordia University Texas faculty since 2002, serving as both Program Director and Chair of the Sport Management program. During his time at Concordia, Dr. Ward has also served as an Assistant Professor in the School of Business and as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Education.

Dr. Ward’s research interests include sport consumer behavior, sport marketing, facility and event management, and sport tourism. He has published over thirty refereed journal articles and presented over fifty papers at national and international conferences. His research has been funded by organizations such as The National Recreation and Park Association, The International Association of Venue Managers, and The Austin Sports Commission. Dr. Ward is a four-time recipient of Concordia University Texas’ Faculty Research Award.

Dr. Michael Sagas

Dr. Michael Sagas is a Sport Management faculty member at Concordia University Texas. He earned his B.A. in Economics from Assumption College, his M.S. in Sport Administration from Miami University, and his Ph.D. in Human Performance Studies from Springfield College.

His research and scholarship interests focus on issues related to fan behavior, player misconduct, gender equity, and discrimination in sport organizations. He has presented his work at national and international conferences and has published in journals such as the International Journal of Sport Communication, the Journal of Sport Behavior, and Asian Management Research.

He formerly served as a Fulbright Scholar in Bangkok, Thailand where he conducted research on the effects of acculturation on the consumption patterns of foreign-born sport fans living in Thailand. In addition to his scholarly pursuits, Dr. Sagas is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
