History of the company
Antigua Sport was founded in 1983 by John and Lily originally as a Rudolf Dassler Puma sportswear distributorship. Antigua’s celebrated design team fused excellent craftsmanship with bold originality to create a unique line of men’s and women’s sportswear. The Antigua label soon became synonymous with exceptional quality and style at a reasonable price.
In 1987, Antigua expanded its offerings to include a full line of golf apparel for men and women. The company enjoyed rapid success in the golf market and became one of the most popular brands on the PGA Tour. In 1992, Antigua was awarded the prestigious opportunity to be an official licensee of the United States Golf Association (USGA). This honor positioned Antigua as a leader in golf apparel and solidified our reputation in the golf community.
The late 1990s saw continued growth for Antigua. We added new licenses with the National Football League (NFL), National Basketball Association (NBA) and NASCAR. We also expanded our women’s line to include a complete collection of sportswear, now known as “Antigua Pink.”
In 2000, we relocated our corporate headquarters from Tempe, Arizona to Newport Beach, California. This move put us closer to the customer base we serve in the golf industry and allowed us to better respond to the needs of our growing company.
In 2001, we celebrated our 20th anniversary by introducing a new logo and corporate identity that better reflect our position as a leading manufacturer of high-quality sportswear. We also launched an aggressive advertising campaign featuring some of the biggest names in sports, including Mark Calcavecchia, Nancy Lopez, Dan O’Neill, Herman Edwards and Jimmie Johnson. The response from customers has been overwhelming, and we look forward to continued success in the years ahead.
