What is Poomsae?
Poomsae is a way of using Taekwondo movements to tell a story or depict a battle. It is a form of Taekwondo that is competition based. Poomsae competitions are based on form, not fighting. Poomsae is sometimes also called Pumsae or Poomse.
Poomsae History
Poomsae originally developed as a way to teach and train taekwondo practitioners in the art’s various self-defense techniques. The word “poomsae” comes from the Korean words “poom,” meaning “strike or block,” and “sae,” meaning “shape or form.”
Poomsae can be performed individually or in pairs, and there are both competitive and non-competitive aspects to the art. In recent years, sport poomsae has grown in popularity, with competitions being held at the local, national, and international levels.
The 2nd Annual Texas Sport Poomsae Championships will be held on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at the Bell County Expo Center in Belton, Texas. This tournament is open to all athletes aged 6 years and up, of all experience levels.
