In the realm of Texas State sports, no cloud hangs heavier than that of Texas over the Bobcat baseball team.
It’s been a while since Texas State shook the burnt-orange gorilla off its back. Seven years to be exact, as the Longhorns completed another sweep of the Bobcats, this time posting a 2-0 win at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Texas State only scratched out four hits against Texas, as its offense continued to struggle. Three of the Bobcats’ hits came in the third inning — all singles — but poor base-running killed any shot at pushing across a run.
Wasted in the loss was a tremendous outing on the mound by redshirt freshman Taylor Black. It was Black’s fourth start of the season and arguably his best. Black held the Longhorns without a hit through four innings, scoreless through five and struck out seven.
Texas State will try to snap its current six-game losing streak Friday night when it begins a three-game set with Central Arkansas.
