Texas State sports fans, it seems Bobcats are better than Ducks — at least for this go around.
Texas State completed a sweep of No. 16 Oregon with a 7-6 win Wednesday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark. The Bobcats belted a pair of home runs (senior catcher/first baseman Casey Kalenkosky and freshman outfielder Brooks Orton) and got a sterling performance on the mound from redshirt freshman Austen Williams.
In the two-game series with the Ducks, Texas State scored 18 runs. Last weekend in a sweep at the hands of Sam Houston State, the Bobcats tallied nine in three games.
Texas State also received its second consecutive standout performance on the mound from a redshirt freshman. On Tuesday, it was Taylor Black who shut down Oregon and Williams did his best a day later.
Williams left in the top of the seventh with a 6-3 lead after chaining the Ducks’ bats with his blistering fastball. He struck out four and induced eight groundouts.
The Bobcats continue their homestand Friday when they resume conference play against McNeese State. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
