D.J. Yendrey is back.
Texas State head coach Dennis Franchione told the assembled media at his weekly Tuesday press conference that Yendrey will likely play in Saturday’s game against Louisiana-Monroe. Yendrey, who transferred to Texas State from TCU last season, hasn’t played a competitive down since the 2011 Poinsettia Bowl.
“That’s exciting for us,” Franchione said. ”I don’t expect him to start. I don’t know how many snaps he’ll play yet. We have to see how Tuesday and Wednesday go, but right now if I had to say, he’ll play Saturday.
“It’s been a long process,” Franchione continued. “Our team needs D.J.”
Don’t expect the Bobcats to change anything schematically to work Yendrey in the lineup. Texas State will still run a three-man front and once Yendrey is back to full strength, the coaching staff will probably drop a defensive end to allow Yendrey and senior Blake McColloch to man the middle together.
