First Quarter: Texas State 7, Wyoming 0
Player of the Quarter: Getting his first collegiate start, true freshman Tyler Jones led the Bobcats to a touchdown on their opening drive on offense. The drive took seven plays, covered 66 yards and took 3 minutes and 18 seconds.
Play of the Quarter: On the Bobcats’ second offensive play of the game, Jones scrambled for a 38-yard run to the Cowboys’ 27 yard line. A few plays later running back Robert Lowe punched it in from the 1-yard line to give the Bobcats a 7-0 lead.
Sporting a bit of a new offense, Texas State grabbed a quick 7-0 lead while all the defense did was force Wyoming to punt on its first four possessions, including back-to-back three-and-outs.
Second Quarter: Texas State 14, Wyoming 14
Player of the Quarter: Junior wide receiver Ben Ijah tied the game after hauling in a pass in the corner of the end zone after Jones placed it perfectly where only he could catch it.
Play of the Quarter: The 26-yard strike from Tyler Jones to Ijah tied the game up 14-14 with 29 second left on the clock before halftime. Ijah got two feet in bounds and the call was confirmed after replay.
Following a 3-hour and 28-minute weather delay due to lightning, play finally resumed at Bobcat Stadium with the score tied 7-7. The score remained tied at the half 14-14.
Third Quarter: Texas State 28, Wyoming 14
Player of the Quarter: No doubt Chris Nutall made his presence felt in the third quarter. He converted a huge third down before his touchdown run that put the Bobcats up by 14 points.
Play of the Quarter: Nutall gave Texas State a 28-14 lead after he busted loose for a 22-yard touchdown run where he ran over and through Cowboy defenders. He displayed his power as he pushed his way into the end zone with a swarm of bodies around him.
Texas State used the running game to take control of the game led by Nutall who netted 48 yards through the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter: Texas State 42 , Wyoming 21
Player of the Quarter: The Texas State offensive line imposed its will against the Cowboys. Nutall and Lowe each scored in the fourth to cushion the Bobcat lead. Texas State finished with 256 yards rushing for the game.
Play of the Quarter: Lowe put the exclamation point on the Bobcats’ big win over Wyoming with a 19-yard run that sent the remaining crowd in a roar.
Coach Dennis Franchione got win No. 200 in his team’s “most complete performance” of the season.
