SAN JOSE, Calif. — Second halves are the Bane to Texas State’s Batman. The Bobcats will eventually figure out how to defeat their arch nemesis, but until they do, they’ll continue to get punched in the mouth.
Texas State didn’t score after halftime in a 31-20 loss Saturday afternoon to San Jose State. It was the fourth time this season that the Bobcats went scoreless in both the third and fourth quarters.
In the second half against the Spartans, Texas State only put up 78 yards of total offense. Four of the Bobcats’ drives in the second half ended in punts and two met their demise when senior quarterback Shaun Rutherford tossed an interception.
San Jose State broke open the game with two touchdowns in the third quarter and controlled the clock throughout the second half (18:46 to 11:14 advantage in time of possession).
With the loss, Texas State fell to 3-4 and 1-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Spartans improved to 6-2 (2-1) and are now one win away from clinching a bowl berth.
