Texas State wants to be a balanced team. When the Bobcats aren’t proportionate, chances are the game won’t go how they want.
Take a look at these percentages of what makes up Texas State’s offense and draw a conclusion.
- at Houston: 56 percent of the team’s total offense was rushing.
- vs. Texas Tech: 53 percent of the team’s total offense was passing.
- vs. SFA: 66 percent of the team’s total offense was passing.
- vs. Nevada: 73 percent of the team’s total offense was passing.
- at New Mexico: 87 percent of the team’s total offense was passing.
- vs. Idaho: 65 percent of the team’s total offense was rushing.
In all but one game where the Bobcats had significantly more passing yards than rushing yards, they lost.
Stephen F. Austin forced senior quarterback Shaun Rutherford to throw and he stepped up to the challenge with 301 yards, completing 21 of his 26 passes. The Bobcats beat the Lumberjacks, 41-37.
Rutherford can’t do it all, so Texas State must take the pressure off his arm and keep the ball moving on the ground.
The Bobcats are 3-3 and return to the field Oct. 27 at San Jose State.
