Five Texas State players were named to Phil Steele’s Midseason All-WAC Team.
Leading the way for the Bobcats, as a pair of first-team selections, were junior Andy Erickson and redshirt freshman Jafus Gaines. Erickson (punt returner) and Gaines (kick returner) each landed on the team thanks to their ability to return kicks. The former averages 16 yards per punt return, while Gaines returns kicks at a 29.7-yard clip.
Erickson earned second-team honors, but this time as a wide receiver. In his last two games, Erickson has 16 catches for 208 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Senior tight end Chase Harper joined Erickson on the second team. Harper hauled in three touchdown catches in his last two games, including a two-touchdown performance against Nevada.
Rounding up the honorees were sophomore cornerback Craig Mager and senior safety Jason McLean. Mager (two interceptions, five passes defended) and McLean (team-leading 40 tackles) were named to the second-team defense.
Texas State opens conference play Saturday night against Idaho.
