College Football: Two-Quarterback Model?

Texas State won’t be the only team in the nation using a two-quarterback system this year — or at least for the first game.

Florida head coach Will Muschamp recently said sophomores Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel will each take a quarter in the first half of Saturday’s season opener. The Gators take on Bowling Green.

I asked head coach Dennis Franchione, who will lead the Bobcats into their first official season as members of the Football Bowl Subdivision this Saturday, what he thought of Muschamp’s model. Franchione has yet to name either junior Tyler Arndt or senior Shaun Rutherford the starter.

“I would anticipate we play both guys [against Houston],” Franchione said. “I would anticipate both of them playing in the first half and a little like Muschamp says how they do may determine how the second half goes. That’s my Tuesday feeling on things. We’ll see how Wednesday, Thursday and Friday works out.”

Texas State kicks off the 2012 season Saturday night at 7 p.m. inside Robertson Stadium.
