Texas State struggled in its kicking game last season, to put it lightly. The Bobcats suffered through Justin Garelick’s inaccuracy — which was later tied to an unknown injury that caused Garelick to hang up his cleats early — and couldn’t get proper distance on kickoffs, no matter who they used.
Well, Texas State hopes those days are in the past now that Will Johnson joined the team. Johnson, a freshman out of Bryan-Rudder High, consistently put the ball out of the end zone on kickoffs and once he got used to his holder/snapper, began to split the uprights regularly.
